At an airport in Lahore from where relief material is being sent to Turkey, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that our National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will buy relief material like tents, clothes, blankets and dry food and then deliver them to Turkey . In a press conference with the Consul General of Turkey in Lahore, Amir Ozbey, PM Shahbaz said that thousands of people have been killed in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, while lakhs have been rendered homeless. “A devastation of such a magnitude is rarely seen where parents have lost their children and innocents have been orphaned… There are horrific scenes everywhere,” he said.
Sharif said – Turkish people will come out of the crisis
The Pakistani Prime Minister asserted that under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish people would come out of the crisis. “And so will our brothers in Syria,” he added. He said that 220 million (22 crore) people of Pakistan are standing with the people of Turkey in this difficult time.
Shahbaz Sharif said, “The night the earthquake was reported, I called President Erdogan and told him that the people of Pakistan, as brothers and Muslims, would help the earthquake victims as much as possible. Shahbaz said, “The relation between Turkey and Pakistan is centuries old.”
Turkey helped Pakistan in 2005
He promised that Pakistan would never leave Turkey alone. He recalled that during the great earthquake in Pakistan in 2005, Turkey cooperated from the front until the last man was taken home. Sharif said that today we have to move forward with the same spirit.
Shahbaz Sharif said that an air bridge had already been established between Pakistan and Turkey, through which medical teams and other relief aid were being sent to the country.
100 tonnes of relief material will be sent
He said a Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight is carrying 20 tonnes of supplies, including winterized tents, while another special flight with 100 tonnes of relief material is expected to leave in a few hours.
