Supreme Court On WhatsApp Privacy Policy: The petitions challenging the privacy policy of WhatsApp were heard in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (February 1). The Supreme Court ordered that the Court has noted the assurance of the Government that a new Data Protection Bill will be brought in the Parliament in the month of March. The court asked WhatsApp to widely publicize its affidavit in the media that people are currently not bound to follow its 2021 privacy policy.
The Supreme Court has directed WhatsApp to advertise in five newspapers in 2021 to publicize its undertaking given to the government in the media. The top court was hearing a petition filed by two students, Karmanya Singh Sareen and Shreya Sethi, who challenged the sharing of user data by WhatsApp to Facebook and others.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice KM Joseph that the data protection bill is likely to be introduced in the second half of the current session of Parliament. He had said that in the second part of the budget session, subject to administrative issues, the Data Protection Bill would be introduced. We have filed an affidavit.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing WhatsApp, suggested that the apex court should wait for the introduction of the bill. On this, the top court said that there is no harm in waiting for the introduction of the bill and in the meantime the sky is not going to fall.
