International Year of Millets 2023: year 2023 The whole world is celebrating as the International Year of Nutritious Cereals. In India too, many events are being organized on the lines of Millet Year. Efforts are on to increase the production of millet in many states. State governments are motivating farmers to grow millet under different plans. The Yogi government has also made preparations to recognize coarse grains grown in the soil and climate of UP at the international level. Soon UP’s Bajra and Sawa will be recognized in the country and the world. There is also a plan to increase the production and processing of these millets with the aim of increasing the income of the farmers in the state.
Districts of UP will be recognized by Millet
In order to give recognition to UP’s millets in the country and the world, the Department of Micro and Small Industries (MSME) has included Millet and Sawa in One District One Product Scheme. Bajra has been selected for ‘Taj Nagri’ Agra and Kanpur divisions, while Sawa has been selected for Sonbhadra, Mirzapur and Bundelkhand. Till now, Mirzapur, which is famous for sowing its carpets, will also get recognition as Kodo Hub. Apart from this, Siddharthnagar will be recognized for the famous black salt paddy.
New identity of ‘Taj Nagri’ in the name of ‘Bajra Hub’
Let us tell you that millet is cultivated on a large scale in Agra and Bundelkhand region, millions of farmers are taking production of millet in the soil and climate here. Apart from this, jowar and desi bajra are also cultivated in Mirzapur. In this episode, the UP government has also taken an important decision. The exercise is going on to get GI tag for the red sorghum grown in the soil of Kanpur.
Exercise to get GI tag to 21 products
According to media reports, a high power committee of the government has started work to get GI tag for 21 agricultural products of Uttar Pradesh. Some millet products are also included in these. In this list of products selected for GI tag, Lucknow’s Revdi, Barabanki-Rampur’s Mentha, Gorakhpur’s Paniyala, Gotha’s Jaggery, Mau’s Brinjal, Agra’s Petha, Mathura’s Peda, Khurja’s Khurchan, Meerut’s Gajak, Bundelkhand Arhar Dal, Hathras Rose Water, Gulkand, Ballia Boro Paddy, Sandila Laddu, Etah Chicory, Farrukhabad Fulva Potato, Fatehpur Malwa Peda, Sonbhadra Chironji are also included.
These products got GI tag
GI tag has been given to 420 agricultural products of India, including 6 agricultural products of UP. These include Surkha guava of Prayagraj, black salt rice of Siddharthnagar, Dussehri mango of Lucknow, Rataul mango of Baghpat, Deshwari paan of Mahoba and Basmati rice. Experts believe that according to the diversity of agricultural climate of UP, the number of GI tag agricultural products in the state is still less.
