16 year old girl had died
Let us inform that a 16-year-old pregnant girl had died in Bongaigaon district in Assam because her family members had tried to give birth at home amid crackdown on early marriages in Assam. The incident is of Wednesday. After the girl’s condition deteriorated, she was taken to Chalantapara Health Center, but the doctors referred her to Bongaigaon. However, the girl died while being taken to Bongaigaon.
That’s why delivery is happening at home
Gaurav Gogoi, deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, said that pregnant girls below the age of 18 are opting to give birth at home and not going to a hospital because “they are afraid of their fathers and husbands being arrested.” Under the ongoing campaign against child marriage in Assam, more than 4074 cases have been registered in the state so far. Out of these 4074 cases, 2441 people have also been arrested.
