Pakistan Blasphemy Killing: Another incident of mob lynching came to light in Pakistan on Saturday (February 11). Here, a mob burnt a person alive on charges of alleged blasphemy. This incident is from Nankana Sahib of Pakistan where people attacked the police station and killed a person on the charge of blasphemy. DSP, SHO of Nankana Sahib has been suspended after this incident.
This gruesome incident of mob lynching comes months after a mob thrashed and burnt a Sri Lankan manager in Sialkot for alleged blasphemy. According to Pakistani media, hundreds of people attacked the police station in Nankana Sahib on Saturday.
Many videos of the incident went viral
The mob first thrashed a person taken into police custody and then set him on fire. Several videos of this incident are also going viral on social media, in which hundreds of people are shown shouting slogans and entering the local police station.
Initial reports suggested that the man was in police custody when the angry mob reached the area. Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar has suspended two senior police officers for failing to stop the murder.
PM Shahbaz ordered an inquiry
Taking cognizance of the incident, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry. A statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office said that why the police did not stop the violent mob? The rule of law should be ensured. No one should be allowed to influence the law. PM Shehbaz said that ensuring peace and order was the first priority for the concerned officials responsible.
PUC president condemned
Meanwhile, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) chairman Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi condemned the incident and said that the manner in which the mob attacked the accused of blasphemy is regrettable. Ashrafi said in a tweet, “The inhuman torture and murder of a person accused of desecrating the Holy Quran and attacking the police station in Nankana Sahib is regrettable and condemnable.”
