Uttarakhand Miister Ganesh Joshi: Minister Ganesh Joshi in the BJP government of Uttarakhand has given a controversial statement. Targeting Rahul Gandhi, he said that the Gandhi family has no monopoly on martyrdom. Not only this, the BJP leader termed the assassination of two former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi as an ‘accident’.
Ganesh Joshi was speaking in response to a question regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s speech at the closing ceremony of Bharat Jodo Yatra. Joshi said, I pity Rahul Gandhi’s understanding. Martyrdom is not the monopoly of the Gandhi family. India’s freedom struggle has seen the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Savarkar and Chandrashekhar Azad.”
Question raised on Rahul Gandhi’s understanding
Joshi further said, what happened to the members of Gandhi family (killing of Indira and Rajiv), was an accident. There is a difference between accident and martyrdom. But one can speak only from the level of one’s own understanding.”

Joshi said, “The credit for this goes to the Prime Minister. If Article 370 had not been abolished under his leadership and normalcy had not returned to Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi would not have been able to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk.” Referring to the hoisting of the tricolor by the BJP, Ganesh Joshi said that when Murli Manohar Joshi hoisted the tricolor at Lal Chowk, violence was at its peak in Jammu and Kashmir.
