Budget 2023: In the budget presented for the financial year 2023-24, a huge cut has been made in the budget of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a provision of 38 percent less budget for the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the coming financial year.
Minority ministry budget cut
The budget of the Ministry of Minority Affairs has been reduced to Rs 3097.60 crore for the financial year 2023-24, which was Rs 5020.50 crore in the budget presented for the financial year 2022-23. That is, 38.30 percent budget allocation has been reduced for the coming financial year. In 2022-23, Rs 5020 crore was allocated for the Ministry of Minorities. But according to the Revised Estimates, only Rs 2612.66 crore can be spent. That is, only 48 percent less amount than the budget allocated for the Ministry of Minorities is likely to be spent in the current financial year.
Budget decreased by 29 percent as compared to 2021-22
Let us tell you that in the financial year 2021-22, the Ministry of Minorities had spent a total of Rs 4323.63 crore. That is, 29 percent less amount has been allocated in the financial year 2023-24 than the amount spent in the financial year 2021-22.
Expenditure on central government schemes
Out of Rs 3097.60 crore allocated for the financial year 2023-24, Rs 2335 crore will be spent on schemes or projects of the central government. 610 crore rupees will be spent by the central government under the head of the sponsor scheme. Rs 149 crore will be spent on other items by the central government.
Minorities Ministry was formed in 2006
In fact, in 2006, the UPA government formed the Ministry of Minorities. From 2006 to 2013, the budget of the Ministry of Minority Affairs increased from Rs 144 crore to Rs 3531 crore. But since then the process of decline has started in it. Between 2013-14 to 2022-23, the budget of the Ministry of Minority Affairs has been increased from Rs 3531 crore to Rs 5020 crore. But in 2022-23, the government is able to spend only Rs 2612.66 crore. While the budget of most other ministries has been increased.
