Tripura Election 2023: The opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front on Friday released its manifesto for the assembly elections in Tripura. The Left has promised 2.5 lakh new jobs to the people of Tripura as well as pension to poor senior citizens, two DA hikes for government employees every year and restoration of the old pension scheme if voted to power.
The 15-page manifesto of the Communist Party of India-Marxist also promised to reinstate the 10,323 retrenched teachers in the state, regularize the services of contractual employees and give more autonomy to the tribal council.
Democracy strangled in Tripura
Talking to the media, Left Front convenor Narayan Kar alleged that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2018, democracy was strangled in Tripura. He said, “In the BJP-IPFT government, people’s right to vote has been taken away while people’s freedom to raise their voice has been lost.” If the Left Front wins the election, it will restore democratic values.

old pension scheme will be restored
He said, “If the Left Front gets the blessings of the people, we will create 2.5 lakh job opportunities in the next five years.” Narayan Kar said that any person whose age is more than 60 years and annual income is less than one lakh rupees, then they will get social pension. He said that in the event of formation of the government, the old pension scheme will be restored.
1,88,494 pensioners in Tripura
There are 1,88,494 government employees and pensioners in Tripura. The Left Front also promised to provide 200 days of work every year to the poor to boost the rural economy. Polling for the 60-member Tripura assembly will be held on February 16 and the counting of votes will take place on March 2.
This time in the alliance, the CPI(M) alone will contest 43 seats, while the other Left Front constituents – Forward Bloc, RSP and CPI – will contest one seat each. The Left Front is supporting an independent candidate in West Tripura’s Ramnagar Assembly. At the same time, under the seat-sharing agreement, the Congress is contesting on 13 seats.
