An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred on Monday (February 6) in many other countries including Turkey-Syria. At the same time, the affected areas had to face more than 150 aftershocks. Earthquake tremors were felt in Turkey as far as Greenland.
Earthquake wreaks havoc in Turkey and Syria

In both the countries, the number of victims is increasing rapidly in the cities and towns affected by the earthquake. In Turkey, 12,391 people have died, while 62,914 are said to be injured. At the same time, the death toll in Syria has increased to 3,486, while the number of injured here is said to be 5,247.
The number of dead is increasing continuously
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in the earthquake-prone area south of his country on Wednesday (February 8) and took stock of the damage. Rescuers in neighboring Syria said they had found colleagues among the dead. At least 1,262 people were killed and 2,285 wounded in government-held parts of Syria, according to state media reports. Rescuers in rebel-held northwestern Syria have reported more than 1,780 dead and 2,700 wounded.
Many cities turned into a pile of rubble
According to the report of the Washington Post, many cities including Turkey’s Noordagi have turned into a pile of debris. Dead bodies piled up outside hospitals and morgues. Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines said it had evacuated about 20,000 people from the disaster area, with an additional 30,000 passengers expected to fly that day. Monday’s 7.8-magnitude quake was followed by dozens of aftershocks, including an unusually powerful 7.5-magnitude quake.
Relief and rescue work going on
Among the most affected cities in Turkey, there were 10 cities including the capital Ankara, Nurdagi. A State Department spokesman said on Wednesday (8 February) that at least three US citizens were killed in an earthquake in southeastern Turkey, without identifying the individuals. Relief and rescue work is going on continuously. The death toll is expected to increase further.
