Assam Govt Campaign Against Child Marriage: In the midst of the arrests regarding child marriage in Assam, all the leaders of the opposition are besieging the state and the central government. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called the Assam government anti-Muslim and biased. He said that there is a BJP government in the state for the last six years. What has he done for child marriage till now? This is his failure.
Owaisi questioned the state government that how many schools did they open? When they are taking action, what will they do about the girls who are already married? He said that the Assam government is anti-Muslim. Earlier, Chief of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Maulana Badruddin Ajmal had also termed this entire action as anti-Muslim. They said that marriage should not happen before 18 years. We are also in favor of this, but this is not the way that the government is doing.
Uproar over action against child marriage
Actually, the Assam government is continuously taking action against child marriage. Police has arrested more than two thousand people in the case. Maximum 137 arrests have been made in Biswanath district. Police said that they have a list of 8,000 accused. The action will continue till everyone is arrested.
Opposition told BJP’s election action
This action is also being described as an election action. The opposition says that the government is doing all this to win the elections. In fact, on January 23, the Assam cabinet under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had decided to take action against child marriage. Making a major change, the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses-POCSO) Act was approved in case of marriage of a girl below the age of 14 years.
