Uniform Civil Code: The Central Government told in the Parliament that no decision has been taken regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, but during the Uttarakhand Assembly elections, the BJP had promised about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). After winning the election, the Dhami government also formed a committee regarding this. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given an answer regarding UCC in the show press conference of ABP News.

On the question of how beneficial the Uniform Civil Code would be for the state, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami replied, “Uttarakhand is Dev Bhoomi. When we put this (Uniform Civil Code) resolution in front of the people, we had said that our state is bounded by two international borders. Someone from every family is in the army. For this reason the law and order should be correct. Keeping this in view, we have constituted a committee, which has talked to the stake holders. Soon the draft will be done and UCC will be implemented in the state.

What reason did the central government give?

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, February 2) that the Central Government has not taken any decision regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code because the matter related to the UCC can be taken up for consideration by the 22nd Law Commission.

Why is UCC important for BJP?

In its election manifesto, BJP has been promising about Ram Mandir, removal of 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and Uniform Civil Code. Out of these, the agenda of Ram Mandir and Article 370 has been completed. In such a situation, the Uniform Civil Code has remained.
