Doda Land Sinking: Cracks started appearing in some houses of Nai Basti village in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir a few days back, but now the situation has worsened due to landslides. The number of affected houses has reached 21. The administration has also come on alert mode. A team from the Doda administration and the Geological Survey of India is present at the site in Doda where cracks have been reported in 21 buildings.
SDM Athar Amin Zargar told news agency ANI, ’21 buildings were affected yesterday. The impact area is limited to the same as seen this morning. He said that Deputy Commissioner Doda and his senior officers are regularly monitoring the situation.
‘The survey team will submit the report to the government’
SDM Amin further said, ‘The government has sent a team of Geological Survey of India and they are doing their study. After the study, he will submit his report to the government. People have vacated the area. Explain that the authorities have also declared a mosque and a madrasa unsafe in Nai Basti village of Thathri near the Kishtwar-Batote National Highway.
‘Affected families evacuated to safer places’
Earlier, on Friday, SDM Athar Amin Zargar had informed that ‘after the houses became unsafe, we have shifted 19 affected families to a safer place. We are monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to ensure their safety. He said that the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police visited the spot and assured all possible help to the affected families.
Zargar said, ‘It would be an exaggeration to compare the situation of the new township with the landslide-affected Joshimath. We are facing the problem of landslides and geologists of Chenab Valley Power Projects and National Highways Authority of India have already inspected the site. Meanwhile, Zahida Begum, affected by the incident, said that she has been living in the village for 15 years and was shocked to see cracks in the houses.
