Nagaland Election 2023 Valid Nominations: For the Nagaland Assembly elections, the Election Commission has found 22 invalid out of 222 applications after scrutiny of nomination papers. A senior officer gave this information. He told that 225 candidates had filed nominations for the assembly elections to be held in the state on February 27, out of which three later withdrew from the fray. The official said that among the 200 candidates whose nomination papers have been found valid, four are women.
Ruling National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Naga People’s Front (NPF), Congress, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), National People’s Party (NPP), Janata Dal United, Republican Party of India (Athawale) Thirteen parties including Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Rising People’s Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Communist Party of India have fielded their candidates.
There are so many independent candidates in the fray
More than 20 independent candidates are also fighting in the election field. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is Friday (February 10). The counting of votes will take place on March 2. Let us inform that apart from Nagaland, the results of two more northeastern states Meghalaya and Tripura will also be released on the same day i.e. on March 2.
Challenge for NDPP-BJP to return to power
The current term of the Legislative Assembly in Nagaland is till March 12. At present there is a coalition government of BJP and NDPP in the state. NPF also joined this alliance last year. Neiphiu Rio is the Chief Minister of the state. In this election, BJP and NDPP have made an agreement of seats as per their announcement made earlier. Out of the total 60 assembly seats in the state, BJP has fielded its candidates on 20 and NDPP on 40. Congress and JDU are also in the fray.
