Javed Akhtar On Quit Drinking: Writer Javed Akhtar has written many great films with Salim Khan. Films like ‘Sholay’ and ‘Zanjeer’ proved to be superhits at the box office. Javed told that there was a time when he got addicted to drinking alcohol, but he stopped drinking in time. Javed Akhtar himself has made this disclosure in Arbaaz Khan’s chat show The Invincibles.

Javed Akhtar told in a conversation with Arbaaz Khan, ‘I used to drink because I used to enjoy. it was a pleasure. I was not drowning in any sorrow. But I understood one thing. Common sense says that the way I drink, I should die by the age of 52-53. Above this my age should not be known. On July 31, 1991, I drank a bottle of rum and after that I stopped drinking from the second day. I haven’t even touched champagne since August 1.’
living is my biggest addiction
Arbaaz Khan praises Javed Akhtar’s willpower when it comes to giving up alcohol. Javed says on this, ‘Willpower is not a thing. It is a matter of desire. My biggest addiction is living and there is no addiction stronger than this.

Earlier in the year 2012, Javed Akhtar had revealed about his addiction to drinking in Aamir Khan’s show Satyamev Jayate. He told in the show, ‘I started drinking at the age of 19. When I came to Bombay (now Mumbai) after completing my graduation, I started drinking with friends and later it became a habit. Earlier I used to have less money, but then after success money started coming. Then came a time when I used to drink a bottle a day.
