Kailash Chand Bairwa, a farmer from Tigdda village, 22 km from Dausa city, is also among those farmers who found a way to overcome the ground water crisis with their intelligence. He has 17 bighas of land, out of which 3 bighas of ber, pomegranate and lemon orchard, farm pond and poultry farm have been built.
Drip irrigation is being used for horticulture. Farmer Kailash Chand Bairwa says that earlier there was a lot of water in his areas too. Almost all the traditional crops were flourishing in the fields.
He himself was taking production of mustard in his field, but gradually with the passage of time the ground water level also started falling. Many farmers sold their land due to this concern and went to the city, but Kailash Chand Bairwa continued farming keeping in touch with the Agriculture Department and started attending the training programs being organized for the farmers, agriculture seminars.
Talking to agricultural experts and officials, it was found that cultivation of horticulture crops in areas with less water is yielding good results. Then did he get 60 desi ber, 40 lemon and 20 pomegranate plants planted on his 3 bigha field?
Fruits being exported to cities
Kailash Chand, a successful horticulturist from a traditional farmer, says that for 15 years, good income is being earned from the orchards of ber and lemon. It is not possible to irrigate 17 bighas of land daily, but 60 quintals of produce is being obtained with less irrigation than jujube cultivation, which is sold in the market for Rs.40 per kg.
There is no problem in its marketing as well. Apart from Dausa, Bandikui and Alwar, transportation of these fruits is being done in the mandis of Hisar and Delhi. In this way, where traditional farming used to earn 1 to 1.25 lakhs in 3 bighas.
At the same time, along with income, profits have also increased 10 times. Kailash Chand Bairwa says that he has built his house in the farm itself. Along with this, there are also two poultry farms, due to which additional income is being earned. A farm pond has also been built on the farm itself, which is helping in irrigation as well as in fish farming.
The Agriculture Department has given a grant of Rs 90,000 on the cost incurred in making it. Animal husbandry is being done at home. Some money is earned by selling the milk of animals. At the same time, animal dung is being used in the field as manure. Today Kailash Chand Bairwa is earning lakhs of rupees through agriculture, horticulture, poultry, fish and animals.
