P Chidambaram On Budget: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the country’s general budget on Wednesday. The first official reaction of the Congress has come regarding this. Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that this is a budget cut from the public. Chidambaram said, “The Finance Minister did not mention unemployment, poverty, inequality even once in his speech. The budget did not benefit the poor, the unemployed youth, the taxpayers.”
The former Finance Minister said, it is unfair to make the new tax regime a ‘default’ option. The modest social security that the common taxpayer used to get in the old tax system, is an injury to him. He said, this is a senseless budget, which has hurt the expectations of most people.
Does not care about the growing disparity between rich and poor
Addressing a press conference at the Congress office, Chidambaram further said, “The Finance Minister did not mention words like unemployment, poverty, inequality or equality anywhere in his speech. The budget shows that the government is concerned about people’s livelihood, their concerns, the rich and the poor.” And doesn’t care about the growing inequality among the poor.
There is no benefit to the youth, tax payers and housewives.
He said, who has benefited from this budget? Certainly not the poor, not the youth looking for a job, not the youth being fired, not the tax payer and not the homemaker. At the same time, Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said about the budget that the economic problems of the country were not mentioned in the budget. Words like unemployment, poverty have not even been mentioned. The word poor was used only twice.
Budget Promoting Gift City of Ahmedabad- Vallabh
He said, there has been a decline in the growth rate in every quarter of the last financial year. Taxes were not cut, except for the new tax regime which has been adopted by only a few people. Gaurav Vallabh said, this budget wants to promote the gift city of Ahmedabad. Those in the new tax regime got some benefit, but the government wants to say that do not invest money in savings schemes.
At the same time, Congress leader and P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram has welcomed the decision to cut income tax. When P Chidambaram was questioned on this, he said, these are his thoughts, maybe he has gone towards the new tax regime.
