This institution took a big initiative in Punjab
According to media reports, Punjab’s Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) organization has taken a big initiative to promote coarse grains. This organization has been working for the last 16 years to take coarse grains to every household. The officials of the organization say that there is a lot of production of coarse grains in the country. Farmers have to be made aware about the production, consumption and earning of coarse grains like Koda, Ragi, Bajra, Kutki and Barley. Continuous steps are being taken by the organization in this direction.
Added 5 thousand farmers
In 16 years from the level of the organization, farmers of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Rajasthan have been trained with the help of workshops, seminars, camps. At present, about 5 thousand farmers are engaged in the cultivation of coarse grains in Punjab. The farmers who are cultivating coarse grains. Marketing is also being done by forming Kudarti Kisan Haat, Kudarti Huts and Kisan Sahakari Samiti from the organization level to make their produce accessible to the common man.
Pesticide use was high
Officials of the organization told that 18 percent pesticides are used in 85 percent of the state’s land. In such a situation, there was a challenge that how to promote coarse grains. Regarding this from the level of the organization, in the year 2007 itself, the fat grain program was started. Programs were organized at the village level. Since then, gradually the family of farmers producing coarse grains is increasing.
