Muslim Women In Mosque: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Wednesday (February 8) filed an affidavit regarding Muslim women offering prayers in mosques. The Personal Law Board told the Supreme Court that Muslim women are allowed to offer namaz in the mosque.
The board told the court that Muslim women are free to go to the mosque to offer prayers. It depends on her whether she wants to exercise her right or not.
What’s in the affidavit?
In the affidavit submitted through the lawyer, the Personal Law Board has said that the mosques are completely private institutions and they are controlled by the mutawalis of the mosques. In this, giving information about the board, it has been said that AIMPLB is a body of experts and it does not have any power. The institution can issue its advice only on the basis of the principles mentioned in the religious texts of Islam.
What is the matter?
Farah Anwar Hussain Sheikh of Pune filed a petition in the Supreme Court in the year 2020. In the petition, calling the alleged ban on the entry of Muslim women in the mosques of India unconstitutional, the court had sought directions on this. The court had sought an answer on this petition.
A similar petition related to Sabarimala and other matters is pending before a 9-judge constitution bench in the Supreme Court. At the time of filing the petition, Farah Sheikh appealed to the court to add her petition to the bench of 9 judges, but the Supreme Court refused. Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde’s bench had said that his case will not go to the constitution bench.
This was demanded
Citing Quran and Hadith, the petitioner had said that there is no distinction between women and men. Prophet Muhammad had specifically told men not to stop their wives from going to the mosque. Despite this, women are being prevented from entering mosques and dargahs. In the petition, the Supreme Court was demanded to order against it. The Supreme Court had sent a notice to the Central Government and the Muslim parties in the matter.
