‘I am being targeted’
Ilhan Omar rebelled after being fired, saying, “I’m a Muslim, I’m an immigrant and, interestingly, I’m from Africa. Is anyone surprised that I’m being targeted? Is anyone Is it surprising to learn that I am somehow deemed unfit to speak about American foreign policy?”
Who is Ilhan Omar?
Ilhan Omar was born in Somalia. When she was 8 years old, the civil war was at its peak in this country. His family fled Somalia to escape this. His family spent four years in a refugee camp in Kenya before immigrating to the United States in the 1990s. After this, in the year 1997, she moved to Minneapolis with her family.
Omar’s grandfather inspired him to go into politics. However, before venturing into politics, she worked as a community teacher at the University of Minnesota. She was a policy fellow at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and also served as a senior policy aide for the Minneapolis City Council.
In January 2019, Ilhan Umar created history. She then became the first African refugee to become a member of Congress. She was the first black woman to represent Minnesota and one of the first two Muslim American women elected to Congress.
What about India?
Ilhan Omar has repeatedly angered Indians with her comments against India. These comments of his are interference in India’s affairs as well as wrong criticism of New Delhi. In fact, on 22 June 2022, he presented a resolution on condemnation of human rights violations in India.
In the press release of her office, Ilhan had clearly expressed her intention. According to it, it “introduced a resolution to condemn human rights violations in India specifically targeting Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Dalits, Adivasis and “other religious and cultural minorities”.
