Women farmers of Bihar have also now made beekeeping a source of extra income. These women farmers also include Arya from Banka district of Bihar, who has been doing beekeeping since the year 2019.

Along with beekeeping in Banka district, Arya, a female farmer who has set up a honey processing unit with the help of livelihood, says that she started beekeeping in the year 2019 with 10 boxes. When the profits started increasing gradually, this area was expanded and from 50 boxes to 100 new boxes were installed.

Arya tells that good income is being earned by selling honey in the local market as well. There is no problem in selling processed honey in the market. According to Arya, with the help of livelihood groups, there is special help in doing this work in a convenient way. Now honey is supplied according to the market demand, whereas earlier it used to be difficult to make honey available according to the demand.

Unit set up with the help of the government
Arya has set up a honey processing unit in his village located in Banka district. Earlier, extraction of honey was done in the traditional way at home, but as the scope of beekeeping increased, problems started coming in domestic processing as well. After this, a honey processing unit was set up with the help of the government. In this unit, 4 to 5 quintals of honey is being processed daily in a clean manner. This honey is also getting good prices in the market.
