According to the information, only PTI chief and former PM Imran Khan will be the candidate for all 33 seats. The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced to hold elections on 16 March.
Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told the media on Sunday (January 29) that this decision was taken in the party’s core committee meeting.
Imran Khan will contest on 33 seats
The Express Tribune has quoted senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi to report about Imran Khan’s entry in the by-election. On Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vice-chairman and former foreign minister Qureshi announced, “Our party PTI has decided to participate in the by-elections and Imran Khan will contest from all the seats.”
By-elections will be held on March 16
Earlier, on Friday (January 28), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced that by-elections for 33 National Assembly seats would be held on March 16. These seats have become vacant after National Assembly Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf accepted the resignations of PTI MPs. According to The Express Tribune, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary had earlier this month announced the party chief’s decision to contest bypolls to all vacant seats in the National Assembly.
Party confident of victory
On January 17, Fawad Chaudhry said in a statement on Twitter, “Tehreek-e-Insaf will contest all the seats and Imran Khan will be Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate on these 33 seats”. PTI was supported even during the by-elections and the party hopes that the public will once again show their faith in Imran Khan with their votes on March 16.
Why is Pakistan by-election special?
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had said that it is mandatory for the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct elections within 90 days of the seats becoming vacant. If the by-elections are not held on time, it will be a violation of the Constitution. Please tell that in April 2022, Imran Khan had to resign from the post of PM and Shahbaz Sharif became the new Prime Minister of the country.
At present, the economic condition of the country is very bad. There is a huge shortage of foreign exchange reserves in the country. Inflation is on the sky. Imran Khan has been claiming that the situation can improve only after his return to power. If PTI wins good seats in the by-elections Imran Khan Will try to capitalize on it.
