Pakistan Mosque Blast in Peshawar: The death toll in the blast in Pakistan on Monday (January 30) is increasing continuously. The death toll in the Peshawar mosque blast has reached 70. At least 70 people were killed and more than 150 injured in a blast in a mosque in northwestern Pakistan, officials said. The treatment of the injured is going on. It is being described as the worst attack in the country in the last 11 months.
Inquilab Khan, shift supervisor of the rescue agency Edhi in Peshawar, said, “We are still extracting bodies from the rubble of the mosque.”
Death toll rises in Peshawar blast
Ghulam Ali, the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, told the media that the blast occurred during afternoon prayers on Monday in the area where Peshawar’s police headquarters and other government offices are located. According to Peshawar Police Chief Mohammad Ejaz Khan, the police are still searching for people buried under the debris of the mosque.
There was an explosion during Namaz
In the high-security area of Peshawar, when the Namaji was offering Zuhr i.e. noon prayer, then the suicide bomber sitting in the front row blew himself up. The Namazis also included police, army and bomb disposal squad personnel. It is said that about 300 people gather in this mosque for prayers. After the explosion, a large part of the mosque collapsed.
There was a blast last year as well
According to the Islamabad-based Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, there was a 22 percent increase in terrorist violence in 2022 as compared to 2021. Last year in March 2022, the Islamic State group had carried out a similar attack on a Shia Mosque in Peshawar itself, in which more than 60 people had died.
