Manish Sisodia on Renewable Energy: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Delhi government will produce 6000 MW of electricity through renewable energy sources in the next 3 years.
On Friday (February 9), an important meeting was organized with the officials of the Energy Department under the chairmanship of Sisodia. In the meeting, he discussed in depth the energy needs of Delhi for the coming years and the preparations of the Delhi government to meet it.
‘2,000 MW of electricity is available from solar and wind energy’
In the meeting, the Deputy CM informed the officials that till date the highest demand for electricity in Delhi was 7695 MW in the month of June in 2022. At present, the DISCOMs have total power tie-ups of 8471 MW, out of which 33% power i.e. around 2826 MW power comes from renewable sources of energy. This mainly includes solar energy and wind energy, from which Delhi receives about 2,000 MW of electricity.
‘Incentive to install solar panels on rooftop’
Regarding the draft Solar Policy 2022 prepared by the Kejriwal government recently, Deputy CM Sisodia told officials that under this policy, people in Delhi will be encouraged to install solar panels on rooftops. Along with this, production based incentive (GBI) of Rs 2 to 3 per unit will also be given to the people for this.
The GBI for the commercial sector will be Re 1 per party unit. Along with this, a subsidy of Rs 2,000 per kilowatt per consumer will also be given for this, which will be a maximum of Rs 10,000. In addition, all government buildings with rooftop area of 500 square meters and above will be solarised. Through these initiatives, an additional 500 MW of rooftop solar plants can be installed in Delhi in the next 3 years.
Officials said that the discom is in discussion with various agencies for additional renewable energy of 3000 MW. Officials said that after the commissioning of 1000 MW solar and 111 MW wind power plants of Solar Energy Corporation (SECI), Delhi will get 1100 MW more renewable energy. Along with this, work is going on on some projects of renewable energy generation of about 2100 MW, which will be completed soon.
‘People of Delhi get 24 hours electricity’
On this occasion, Manish Sisodia said that through all these initiatives, Delhi will be able to generate 6000 MW of electricity in the next 3 years, which will be completely produced from renewable sources of energy and will meet the energy demand of Delhi, 24 hours of electricity. Along with making it available, it will prove to be very important in the direction of reducing pollution.
He said that the people of Delhi are given electricity 24 hours a day, the rate of which is the lowest in the country. Fulfilling its guarantee, the Kejriwal government provides free electricity to a large population of Delhi. The people of Delhi should continue to get uninterrupted electricity in the future as well and we can meet the increasing demand of electricity, so that the government is working to make Delhi self-sufficient in terms of energy.
Renewable energy will reduce pollution
The Deputy Chief Minister said that currently 33 percent of the total energy consumption in Delhi is renewable energy. In the next 3 years, through various initiatives of the government, 6000 MW of renewable energy can be generated in Delhi. Thus, in the next 3 years, we aim to shift major part of Delhi’s energy demand to renewable energy so that our dependence on thermal power plants can be reduced and we can produce completely clean renewable energy for Delhi. This will also prove to be very important in the direction of reducing pollution.
During this, Manish Sisodia instructed the officials to speed up the work of installing rooftop solar plants on the roofs of all the buildings of the Delhi government such as government offices, schools etc. so that the government can achieve its goals within 3 years. Along with this, he asked the officials to explore other possible areas for setting up solar energy plants, in which he instructed to start pilot projects for setting up floating solar plants in lakes.
