It started migrating to West Bengal from the 1950s due to religious persecution there.

The CAA provides for citizenship to migrants from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities coming from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. However, so far no one has been given citizenship under this law, because the government has not yet made rules in this regard.
