Research was going on for about 11 years on collagen gel, after which success has been achieved in the last trial. Soon the institute will patent the collagen gel and launch it in the market through the pharmaceutical company.
How is collagen gel prepared?
Dr. Rekha Pathak, Principal Scientist of the Department of Surgery at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), says that we started research on this 11 years ago. This gel has been prepared from histography. To test its success, collagen gel has been used on an injured pet cat brought from Moradabad.

Many times better than antiseptic cream
IVRI’s research team found in their research that compared to other anti-septic creams, collagen gel took less than a quarter of the wound healing time. Generally, antiseptic creams and lotions have started coming to heal the wounds of animals like humans, which reduce infection.
After this the tissues develop on their own. In such a situation, collagen gel not only prevents infection, but also helps in faster recovery of wounds. Sometimes there is no special effect of lotion or antiseptic cream on deep wounds. In such a situation, the results of collagen gel are quite good.
Also used on burn patients
Many times animals get hurt due to claws, teeth or other reasons in mutual fight and get deeply injured. In such a situation, the use of collagen gel will be of great help in healing the wounds. Regarding this latest research on collagen gel, Dr. Megha Pandey of AIIMS Bhopal said that there is a plan to use this collagen gel on burn patients as well. It is expected that it will prove to be as effective on patients as on animals.
