Smallest Cricket Ground: The world’s smallest cricket ground is in New Zealand. The boundaries of Eden Park located here in Auckland city are very small compared to all other cricket grounds in the world. Under the current ICC rules, international cricket is not recognized to be played on such a small ground but because this ground is more than 100 years old and the rules have come much later. In such a situation, permission has been given to organize international matches here.
This Eden Park in Auckland was built in the year 1900. For the first time in February 1930, the first international match was played here. Here New Zealand faced England. This match was a draw. So far 50 Test matches have been played here. Including all the three formats of cricket, a total of 150+ matches have been organized here.
Very few straight boundaries
The straight boundary of Eden Park is just 45 metres. While according to ICC rules, its length must be at least 55 meters. The square boundary of this ground is also only 65 meters. In such a situation, sixes rain heavily on this ground. In February 2018, the Australian team also achieved the target of 244 runs in the T20 match here. A total of 32 sixes were hit in this T20 match.
200+ scores have been made 7 times in T20 matches
Scores of more than 200+ have been scored 7 times on this ground in T20 International matches. Even in ODIs, more than 300 runs have been scored here 9 times. At the same time, the figure of 500 runs has been crossed here 10 times in Test cricket. It rains heavily here. Taking advantage of the small boundaries here, the batsmen hit a lot of sixes. The spectator capacity of this ground is also less. About 40,000 spectators can sit here.
Stoinis hit 11 sixes in an innings
Australia’s Marcus Stoinis has played the biggest innings in ODIs here. In January 2017, he scored 146 runs in 117 balls. This innings included 11 sixes. Stoinis took advantage of the small boundaries of Eden Park. Martin Guptill has scored a century here in T20 International. Guptill scored 105 runs in just 54 balls with the help of 9 sixes.
