Prime Minister Narendra Modi The cabinet meeting approved the construction of 4.1 km long Shinkun La tunnel on Moo-Padam-Darcha road link. With this, Ladakh will get all-weather road connectivity (working in all weather). Its length will be 4.8 km.
Shinkun La Tunnel is being said to be very important for the army. With its commencement, army personnel and equipment will be able to come in any season. Darcha-Padam-Neemo was prepared by BRO in 2019, but due to cold on this road and snowfall in Shinkun La La situated at 16 thousand 703 feet, the army has to face a lot of trouble in this. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that a proposal to this effect was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He informed that the construction of the tunnel would be completed by December 2025 and it would cost Rs 1681 crore.
Why is it important?
The Shinkun La tunnel is very important for the army in view of the threat from China and Pakistan because the tunnel is more secure than the Srinagar-Drass-Kaksar-Kargil highway near the LoC and the Manali Upshi-Leh highway near the LAC. The Indian Army used the Darcha-Padam-Neemo road for arms and other goods after the skirmish with the Chinese Army in 2020. Let us tell you that the Union Cabinet also approved the formation of seven new battalions and a regional headquarters of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) guarding the India-China border.

Vibrant Village Program will also be implemented during the financial year 2022-23 to 2025-26. For this, a provision of Rs 4800 crore has been made, in which Rs 2500 crore will be spent on the construction of roads. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that this is important keeping in view the strategic importance of the northern border of the country. With this, assured livelihood can be provided in these border villages, which will help in stopping migration. Along with this, the security of the border areas will also be strengthened.
