Astronomers Discovered 12 New Moons: The efforts of scientists are continuing to discover the facts and accurate aspects related to the Solar System. New satellites are constantly being discovered in the solar system. Meanwhile, astronomers have discovered 12 moons of Jupiter. In a successful discovery beyond Earth’s orbit, astronomers have come to know that 12 moons are orbiting Jupiter.
After this new discovery, Jupiter now has the maximum number of 92 moons. Earlier, Saturn had maximum 83 satellites.
Jupiter became the king of the moons
Dozens of new moons have been detected in information given by astronomer Scott Shepard of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington. Information regarding the discovery of satellites has been published by the Minor Planet Center (MPC). The Jovian system is now a mini solar system in itself with these 92 moons. Jupiter is now being called the king of the moons.
The specialty of the new satellites?
Jupiter was already the largest planet in our solar system. The newly discovered moons are small. They complete their orbits in 340 days. Nine of the 12 new moons are among the 71 outermost Jovian satellites whose orbits take more than 550 days. Sky & Telescope reported that three of the newly discovered moons are among the 13 satellites that orbit in the opposite direction.
NASA’s Jovian Mission
These moons of Jupiter have happened at a time when NASA is preparing to send a mission to explore the Jovian world. The Europa Clipper mission is preparing to conduct the first dedicated and detailed study of ocean worlds beyond Earth. The study will reveal whether there are favorable conditions for life here or not. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are called Jovian Planets.
